EDU 891: Dissertation 2, School of Education

Overview

The purpose of the second (and third) dissertation course is to ensure that EdD students complete and successfully defend their dissertations.

Students continue to identify strengths and weaknesses in their dissertations and edit accordingly. They critically analyze and discuss their dissertations with their committees and identify areas for future study. Prior to graduation, students complete: a) the successful defense of their dissertations, b) subsequent rewrites inclusive of the dissertation committee recommendations, and c) final edits as required.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Continue exploring what the experts say about data collection, analysis of data, and completing a dissertation.
  • Critically analyze the strengths and limitations of various data collection, analysis, and reporting processes.
  • Present, when appropriate, the dissertation to his/her committee.
  • Reflect on perceived challenges and gaps of knowledge that propel the efforts in the next dissertation course.
