MBA 562: Judgment and Decision Making

Estimated Hours Per Week: 17

Overview

The topic of decision making is addressed in two distinct literatures. The first looks at rational and quantitative means of making decisions. This includes the use of decision trees and the assignment of probabilities and expected outcomes. The second looks at the subjective side of decision making. It asserts that both individuals and groups are subject to predictable biases that cause them to make less than optimal choices. Students in this course will examine both sides of the topic.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Effectively use quantitative tools for decision making.
  • Identify and manage common individual and group biases that interfere with rational decision making.
  • Integrate rational and non-rational considerations in order to make more effective decisions.
