MBA 614: Business Continuity Planning

Overview

Keeping the organization functioning during a crisis is critical to meeting the organization's overall mission. Threats range from terrorism to major power outages. The business continuity planning process includes disaster recovery, incident response, and computer forensics. This course covers creation of a disaster recovery plan and assembly of team members for implementation, establishment of protocols required for rapid and complete business continuity, containment of an IT security breach, and identification and training of those who will act as company representatives with law enforcement and criminal investigation organizations.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Describe the relationships between disaster recovery, incident response, and computer forensics.
  • Identify issues in IT security that impact the global marketplace by studying worldwide trends, case studies of criminal investigations, computer forensics, bioinformatics and biometrics, smart cards, and digital rights.
  • Evaluate a company's information security training (if any), and make suggestions for improvement or devise a course of training for maintaining information security.
  • Develop a disaster recovery plan that enables a business to recover rapidly, as well as implement lessons learned from previous disasters as improvements to the plan.
